Ramayana Remix - Theatre & Illustration
The Ramayana Remix Project is a travelling theater production that spins the epic Ramayana
to question societal norms of gender and caste. Ramayana Remix began with a trip to
Shoranur, Kerela to study Thol Paava Koothu, an age-old leather shadow puppet craft preserved
and propagated by the Pullavar family. The project then developed into a theatre performance
with multifarious design elements.
The cards were produced as part of the merchandise for the show.
The face cards of the four card suits borrow from the four warrior clans from the Ramayana.
The Monkeys form the tree like Clubs. The Bears represent the Diamonds as both love to dwell in caves.
Rama's family are the Hearts and the majestic, dark Asura family of Ravana make the Spades.
